Description
So…
You’ve started the writing process. You’ve successfully completed The Messy Optimist’s (TMO) Intro to CW – Basic Level class. Before finishing the basic level class you wondered if you were a good writer. Now YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOOD. But you need to hone your skills even further to get all those ideas inside your head and onto paper. Well, onto your laptop!
And that’s where the second part of TMO’s Intro to CW class – the Intermediate Level – comes in.
In this level – we will go further into writing different types of non-fiction writing, even as we start learning the basics of writing fiction – especially, a short story.
But before I go any further – a quick introduction to myself. For those who may not know (or have forgotten) – my name is Roopa Swaminathan, AKA The Messy Optimist, and I’m a National Award-winning writer and filmmaker. I’m also an academic who teaches creative writing to college students (for over five years now). Also, I’ve taught Creative Writing to non-native English-speakers in Shanghai for many years.
So…back to this course. What does the Intermediate level of the CW course contain?
In this module I will take you through the various types of creative non-fiction writing. You will learn how to write a persuasive opinion column, how to write film and other reviews, learn what is narrative writing, how to write a memoir and more. Then we will segue into learning the basics of writing fiction – these include understanding plot and conflict and characters.
By the end of this extensive Intermediate writing class you will have learned how to successfully write shorter creative non-fiction pieces as well as come up with multiple plot ideas to build on your short stories (and maybe a novella).
This course contains pre-recorded video lectures for over Eight hours. Each lesson comes with writing exercises for you to practice your writing skills.
